Project Ideas

I often have project ideas coming up. Read through them, and if you like any - why not implement them? I hope you can find some inspiration on this page.

DreamPad

Writing dreams is a fun and reflective activity. Most people use their phone's notepad or a physical notebook to write them down, but what if we used text processing to

  1. Automatically categorize the dreams
  2. Ask the user relevant questions to help remember the dream better

GPT-powered "The Onion"

I have enjoyed reading satirical news such as The Onion or the Romanian Times New Român.

I intend to attempt to create a GPT using OpenAI's GPT creator that generates satirical news based on romanian or european topics.

I have had some situations when I wanted to refresh all tabs simultaneosuly. Could try to implement a little extension for that matter...

Update - it already exists, but maybe could use some extra features

"Make me a playlist" app

In the past, I had loved to post "song requests" on my Instagram story. That meant people would send me their favourite songs, on different themes that I would ask for, and I would comprise a playlist from them and listen to it while doing work.

The part about "making the playlist" was annoying, as I had to go through each individual song and find it on Spotify, add it to the playlist, only then could I actually listen to it.

The idea involves integrating the Spotify API in a small web application that would allow a user to create his public link, connected to his Spotify account. The user would then share this link to his followers and anyone could open the link, search for their favourite songs and send them to the user. The website would automatically update the generated playlist for the host and he could listen to it while it updates automatically.

I have not studied the Spotify API to check if this would be possible (authentication is probably required and I do not know for how long the tokens are valid), but I think it should be possible in some way or another.

Step Up! is an idea that came to my mind when trying to develop ideas for a project for the Software Engineering class I'm taking in Portugal.

The idea is simple - the user takes real-life steps to generate in-game currency, which they can then use to buy upgrades that make them generate even more income.

A friendship system would allow players to challenge each other for rewards, gift walking boosts - there are many ideas to be implemented.

A prototype of the game can be found at step-up.rotak.ro, but it can only be played after downloading the application from the browser.

Generating "Color by Number" Images

We all know the "color by number" game. A seemingly abstract piece of paper filled with blank shapes, each containing a little number that represents the color you need to fill it in with.

With the current state of image processing, either using Deep Learning techniques or simple region detection, we could rapidly generate color by number images from any images taken by the user.

The idea is not complicated - a website where the user uploads an image they want to transform - they receive the image transformed to its color by number form and a list of numbers and the specific colors they would have to fill in. A slider could be used to define the complexity of the resulting image, and the website could even be turned into a mobile game that would allow you to share the generated images with other users (of course, safety measures should be implemented to ensure that no explicit or dangerous images would be shared).

"An Idea for me"

I often get project ideas. They may or may not be very good, but they are ideas and need thinking through. Who knows what masterpiece can come up from a seemingly useless thought?

The IdeaForMe app would involve two types of users:

  1. The idea generator: this is the person that gets a lot of ideas and needs to throw them somewhere for someone to use- they would log into the website, post their idea and write some tags to describe it and categorize it (is it short-term, is it a big project). Then, the second user type would log in:
  2. The consumer: this user will search for ideas about different topics and find one they like, and attempt to implement it - whether it's a social cause, a tech app, an idea for a recipe - then, they could keep in contact with the person who generated the idea and let them know the progress.
